7   Commemoration of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, died 1787. He is considered the patriarch of American Lutheranism. One son, John Peter Gabriel, left his pastorate in Woodstock, Virginia, to become a general under George Washington. Another son, Frederick Augustus Conrad, also a Lutheran Pastor, became the first Speaker of the House of Representatives
